Construction underway on experiential retail concept at St. Louis mall — DICK’S Sporting Goods House of Sport to backfill former Nordstrom

By Brandmarch1 min read

Construction is underway at St. Louis Galleria to redevelop the former two-level Nordstrom into a DICK’S Sporting Goods House of Sport.

The project will convert the entire anchor box into an experiential format combining traditional sporting goods retail with turf fields, batting cages, climbing walls, and event space designed to drive longer visits and repeat traffic.

Nordstrom’s closure in 2025 left a significant vacancy, with the mall operating around 83% occupancy, prompting ownership to prioritize large-format experiential tenants over traditional department store replacements.

The shift reflects a broader repositioning strategy: using activity-based anchors to stabilize traffic and re-energize surrounding inline retail. For leasing teams, the outcome will likely influence co-tenancy demand, dwell time, and spillover traffic across the center and the broader Brentwood/I-64 corridor.
