Bio
Ryan Schimel joined Capricorn in 2018, working in their brokerage advisory services division where he assists both Landlords and Tenants with their retail real estate strategy. Having worked in almost every aspect of the commercial real estate industry, he brings a wealth of expertise to every transaction. Beyond just his experience, Ryan prides himself on being able to strategically work with his Landlord clients to lease up their vacancies with the highest and best use possible, while also properly placing tenants in locations where they can thrive and continue to grow.
Prior to joining Capricorn, Ryan served as a Director at Commercial Asset Group, one of Southern California’s top producing boutique brokerage firms. He worked closely with the principals for 9+ years, mostly with the sale and leasing of retail and office properties in West LA, Hollywood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Downtown LA and throughout the rest of Southern California.
Ryan has worked with many of the industry’s prominent Landlords & Retailers, including Westfield, California Landmark, AvalonBay Communities, American Commercial Equities, Hudson Pacific Properties and G&L Realty Corp and retailers including Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Bathing Ape, Fly Wheel, Michael Voltaggio, Adore Cosmetics, Matthew Kenney Cuisine, Innovative Dining Group (Boa, Katana, Sushi Roku), Tot Squad, Detox Market, Pop Physique, and Pacific Sunwear.
Earlier in his career, he worked with The Martin Group and Domino Realty where he was exposed to multiple disciplines within the commercial real estate industry. Ryan’s responsibilities included underwriting acquisitions, managing multi-family complexes, canvassing for commercial tenants as well as financial operations, construction and development. In addition to retail assets, they included multi-family developments, industrial parks, office complexes and storage facilities. For Domino, in 2007-2008, Ryan spearheaded a project focusing solely on the acquisition of regional Self-Storage facilities. Anticipating the events of 2009-2010, Domino purchased 3 large Self-Storage facilities that he sourced, in an effort to provide a service for those in need and unable to work with the likes of Public Storage and other larger brands. Capricorn continues to bring him closer to the work he enjoys best; working with tenants and Landlords to thoughtfully merchandise their large projects and continue to build a synergy among some of New Yorks prominent retail destinations.
Ryan was born and raised in Los Angeles and graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He currently resides in Long Island with his wife Alyssa and three children. Ryan has been an active member of ICSC and REC Cabinet of The Jewish Federation since 2010, while also working with many charitable organizations including UJA and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Ryan and his wife are Board Members of The Wendy Walk organization, a non-profit providing funds to aid research for Sarcoma & Carcinoma cancer types.
