West Marine

As the largest specialty retailer of boating supplies and marine equipment in the world, West Marine is a high-value "category killer" that provides institutional-grade stability to coastal and lakeside retail environments. With over 230 locations and a legacy spanning half a century, West Marine acts as a powerful destination anchor that draws a uniquely affluent and loyal demographic—boating enthusiasts, anglers, and marine professionals—who travel significant distances for its specialized inventory. Under the leadership of Paulee Day, the brand is currently executing a 2026 strategic pivot focused on "Core Marine" and pro-customer service, reinforcing its physical stores as essential technical hubs for high-ticket maintenance and DIY projects. For landlords, a West Marine lease offers a recession-resilient, "internet-defiant" tenant whose brick-and-mortar presence is critical for immediate-need hardware and professional-grade consultations. Its high sales-per-square-foot and ability to anchor large-format spaces (ranging from 10,000 to 50,000 sq. ft.) make it an ideal cornerstone for premier power centers and lifestyle developments in high-growth maritime corridors.
